Member Since: 2008 City: Elkin State: North Carolina County: Surry County, NC Bio: In 2001 my Mother and I moved from Columbus, Georgia, to Elkin to be close to my son, Derrill Rice, and his family. I have loved Elkin from the beginning! Early on, Rosy Beverley got me interested and involved in the Foothills Arts Council. I had to curtail my FAC Board responsibilities when my Mother's Alzheimer's disease became too severe for her to be alone. In 2005 my "old flame" from YEARS ago (Ralph Shoemaker) and I were married, and in 2006 my Mother passed away. I have always like to "make things" and have tried (and in some cases been successful) many craft and artistic projects. Many years ago I found that I enjoyed painting in oil, watercolor, pastels, acrylics, pencil and ink. During the past year I have begun beading, fusing glass, and making pottery. Sandy White has been my teacher in pottery for almost a year. I have found that pottery is very relaxing for me. I really like the uncertainty of what will emerge from the kiln in both glass and pottery. Now, with time to do "fun things", Ralph and I are enlarging our studio area in the hope of creating more beautiful things! This Member's Galleries: This bio page has been viewed 585 times.
