When reading a brochure from our local community college I noticed a class was offered in stained glass. I had previously made my wife some ring and pin sets while in the hospital in Japan and liked the fact that I was able to do something artistic. I ended up taking the class from a woman in Chattanooga, TN and found that I not only liked doing stained glass, but was fairly good with it. I also found it to be very relaxing to do. My teacher is in the business of doing stained glass as a vocation and asked me to do some things for her. I agreed, and joined her in doing some windows for businesses and churches. When I fully retired, I moved to a retirement center in Bradenton, Florida. I continued to do small things in glass in a utility building behind my RV. It was soon noticed and I was asked to start a glass studio in a building next to the wood shop on the premises. I agreed and the powers that be bought the equipment needed to have three work stations in the glass shop. During the next three years I taught over 100 people to do stained glass. When Jane and I decided to marry in 2005, I moved to Elkin and we set up a small shop in our basement. I have continued to do small items. I have also made three fireplace screens for our collective family. One recently tied for first place in the "black and white" art show at Grassy Creek Vineyards. I have only taught one person in this area to do stained glass and having such a small shop, it is hard to teach. I am happy to see the ladies having a stained glass shop and retail outlet on Main Street here in Elkin. This Member's Galleries: This bio page has been viewed 1474 times.
